GREETINGS

Thank you so much my blogger friends for the kind words and thoughts about Minnie.  It meant so much to me during this sad time.

A SURPRISE IN THE CELLAR

I went in the cellar way yesterday to look for a hammer and saw water at the bottom of the stairs.  All the rain that was supposed to come through the house was now in the basement.  I only have a partial basement which I can stand up in but most people can’t.  In New England there is plenty of ledge and I have my share in the basement.  Luckily someone had the thought to build a cement trough and a hole with a drain pipe which takes the water into the street.  During hurricanes and very bad storms you can hear the roar of the water rushing through the house..  I couldn’t unplug it from inside and had to find the opening near the street which was plugged up with mud. I got a very long stick (about 12 feet long) and finally in about 10 minutes got it unplugged it gushed out and this morning is still coming out.  Glad I went down there, weeks can go by without a visit to the cellar.

Morticia rejoins the two kids every morning now.  Rosie is getting the same treatment as Samantha.  More lessons learned for the two young gals.

TEA COZY

I am making progress on the Tea Cozy and I am really enjoying working on it.  Right now I am working on a Tea Pot pattern.  Can’t wait to see how it comes out.

TANSY AND HOPS TO THE FARMERS MARKET

IMG_3508

I am taking Tansy Bouquets and Hops swags to the farmers market today.  I don’t know how they will sell but its something I have wanted to do. When I started my small business I wanted to sell herbs, flowers and wool.  Moving and other obstacles have been in my way but I am getting back to that original plan slowly.

It’s cloudy this morning and cool, the sun is trying to break through.  I am still washing wool sweaters, it will be a great day for this one to dry.  Hope your day is wonderful wherever you are.  Many thanks for taking the time to ready my log.   Carole

LAVENDER EYE PILLOWS-NEW SHOP-TOMATOES

24 08 2013

Hello

Today was a busy day doing errands.  Sadie had a good day today, she is in good spirits and eating and drinking well.  After all my errands were done I decided to go and pick more Tansy.  Much to my dismay it was mostly mowed down.   I suppose to prevent a spark from the train causing a fire.  It was very dry.  I was able to get some along the road by the tracks so all was not lost.

LAVENDER EYE PILLOWS
Yesterday I sewed all the dark purple silk for the eye pillows.  I added the flax and lavender and sewed the ends and it came out fine.

The light is not good for sewing dark material so I will finish them in the morning and hopefully do that pillow top too.

Bags of dyed wool and roving

I packed 20 bags of dyed wool and roving this afternoon to take to a new shop that I will have a few things in .  These small bags are good sellers everywhere, great for hooking, needle felting and regular felting and many more things.

The shop is located in Deerfield.  I will have more information about it and pictures tomorrow.

THE Worst Weed for Sheep Owners

This is the worst weed for sheep owners.

008

Fortunately for me its growing in the garden.  Nevertheless I will have to dig it up and put it in a plastic bag and burn it when its dry.  Its spreads like crazy and embeds itself into the fleeces ruining large parts of them.

TOMATOES

The following are some pictures of the tomatoes which will be ripe soon.  I am going to have a large variety.  I did order a box from the local farm stand for Wednesday and plan to can them.  You can never have too many tomatoes in the winter.  Soups and sauces  Hmmmmmmm

Hello,

Tansy

IMG_0895

Yesterday we went and picked  bunches of tansy.  They are just beautiful this year.  I love having them through-out the house as a deterrent to insects.  In the net few weeks the house will be filled with their scent.

The New Hooking Book

RUG HOOKING TRADITIONS WITH MAGDALENA BRINER EBY  by Evelyn Lawrence and Kathy Wright

IMG_0903

. I have been wanting to find a book with some very old rugs in it.  I wanted to see how they were done and thought about making a couple for the shop.  This book is a treasure.  It is about the life of Magdalena Briner Eby.  SO many times  all information is lost about hookers in the 1800’s but luckily all her information is available.  She was born in 1832, was widowed at age 25 and lived the rest of her life working and caring for family members and quilting and rug hooking.  Family letters of the day held much information. They say that she made between 30 and 50  rugs in her lifetime.  Her history in the first part of this book will excite you. Most of her rugs were simple designs of life around her. Farm animals and flowers. Her life was so interesting, you will love this beautiful book.

Yesterday we did get the Chicken Caravan moved.  It was a challenge , with flat tires and going up hill.  It’s in a good spot now where there is easy access.

Today is a beautiful cool morning and the sheep truly enjoy the cooler weather.  I didn’t get the pickles done yesterday so it’s on my list for today.

I hope  you have a wonderful day and many thanks for reading my blog.    Carole

MORE TANSY- PERMACULTURE-BIRTHDAYS AND THE SPINNING GROUP- RUG HOOKING

17 09 2012

HELLO,

PERMACULTURE

This afternoon I went to pick the last of the Tansy.  Most were already gone by but there were enough left that were still bright yellow and I also picked Sweet Fern.  In Charlemont on top of the mountain where the ski area is , a windmill turns ever so slightly in the breeze.    I believe that we are at a cross-road on this planet, we can continue as we are or take the right road and do more solar and wind and live with permaculture in mind.  There are the people who do not want windmills in their backyard.  I do understand this but I would not mind one bit having a big windmill on top of my mountain.  Yes there is some nose involved .  Having traveled a lot in Ireland where there are many, many windmills it doesn’t seem like an issue for that country at all.   It will become an issue for us as oil and gas prices edge up.  Yesterday I paid almost $4.00 a gallon for gas.   SOmeday the price will go up and stay up and people will have to make decisions then.  Some of us are already making those decisions by thinking before we take each trip with the car.  I do hope we can come together as a country and do the right things for the planet.

THE SPINNING GROUP AND BIRTHDAYS

Today the spinning/fiber group met at Ceacy’s.  Her house is located down a windy dirt road with her horses on one side of the road and a huge flock of wild turkey’s on the other.  Nancy greeted me at the door.  Her livingroom was full, people who were knitting, spinning, working on fabric and talking about the weeks events.  Today was Michael’s birthday celebration.    Each birthday is celebrated with gusto.  A birthday cake with candles and presents are for the delight of the birthday person.  Each gift given is with great thought to what the person might wish for.  As one grows older it seems that birthdays become less important, but in reality we all long for the birthday cake and that special gift.  The gift doesn’t have to cost money just something special.  We all enjoyed the cake and celebration.

RUG HOOKING PROJECTS

I really like the greens much better than the purple pinks.   It seems to add that primitive piece to the rug.  I hope to have room for my frame  in the car so that I can hook at the show.

I have finished the two pumpkins so now I have the finishing to do.

HOPE YOUR DAY IS WONDERFUL AND THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR READING MY BLOG
