HELLO

Yesterday was the last spinning class.  Everyone has done wonderfully.  They accomplished so much in these three weeks.  We made some designer yarns yesterday

The yarns came out so different and all made quite nice designer yarns.

FRANCIS AND SWEET PEA

Both hens laid eggs this morning.  Francis is well over 10 years old which is getting up there in hen’s years.  Sweet Pea, I believe is the Mother of the two light-colored chicks.

Books I Am READING

The Field Guide TO Fleece

by Deb Robson and Carol Ekarius

This small field guide is a MUST for spinners and buyers of wool.  Everything you need to know to pick out a fleece for your project is on two pages.   A description of the sheep, use of dyes on the fleece and best uses for the fleece along with pictures of the sheep and fleece are listed.  This guide is small and will fit right into your purse.  Take it to the next sheep and wool event .

The days are going by fast at the farm, still many spring chores to get done.  Today the chicks will be moved, what a delight for them and for me.   They are not going outside just yet but into the back coop.  I need to tighten security in their yard.  I still have no idea if they are roosters or hen’s.  Here’s hoping they are hen’s.

It’s a cool morning but will warm up quickly.  Hope you have a wonderful day, thanks for reading my blog.     Carole

HELLO

MURPHY AND SWEET PEA

MURPHY AND SWEET PEA

WORM COMPOSTER

I have decided to get a worm composter,  hope to get it in the summer.  Composting outside is not something one can do on a farm.  A farm can be rat heaven.  Especially when you have chickens.  Half of their food is thrown here and there with their scratching.

IMG_2616

I took a class on worm farming at my local food co-op a few years ago  Now I am at the point that I really need to do it.  Although I normally don’t have a lot of food waste but enough to keep the worm farm going.  This year its out of control.  I have those three chickens living in my house.  Bags and bags of cage litter were being thrown outside and inside that litter were chicken pellets.  Next thing you know there are the rats.  Between Cornelius and the worm factory, I should be rat free in no time.  When the weather is above freezing Cornelius is around but these past few days its been too cold.  Warming up today and the weekend.

CHRIS

Chris is coming for the weekend.   He will help me worm the sheep and clean the barn.  We will work on the barn Saturday morning.  He is such a great help and lots of company.

SAM

I was cleaning out a file drawer yesterday and found all my cat info.  Sammy will be 19 this year.  With all his trails and tribulations he is going strong.  When he was about 4 he had a blockage and almost died.  It was a frightful event.  From that time on all the cats have been on the special diet for blockages and things have been fine.  He now has a thyroid condition and a respiratory condition both of which he takes pills for.  Each morning I crush up the pills in a pill crusher and mix it with baby food.  If he feels that I have not done this on time he comes looking for me and reminds me with his loud meow’s.  He is an amazing cat but aren’t they all!
