DROP SPINDLE CLASS-OLIVER-SPRING IS ON ITS WAY-MINNIE

4 04 2013

Hello

Drop Spindle Class

I have spent part of the day getting all the wool ready and writing a brief history of the drop spindle.

I have also mentioned the Craggaunowen Project In County Clare, Ireland.  If any of you are planning a trip to Ireland  this place gives you a peak of Irish history as it was.

I have a few different kinds of wool to take, looking forward to teaching 4 people how to spin on the drop spindle.

Ollie went to see Dr. Funk today.  The visit went well although he still didn’t see any cancer he does not rule it out.  He does see improvement in reduction of the swelling of his eyes and mouth.  He still as trouble eating.  We go back in a week.

Spring Is On Its Way

When coming into Colrain you come down a steep hill before turning off onto Main Road.  Yesterday when coming down I could still see the large outcrops of boulders in the mountain across the valley, today when coming down the hill they were not visible.  The warm weather has made the trees bud out more.  My bulbs  are up 5 or 6 inches and we are suppose to have temps in the 50’s through the weekend.

Minnie

I bought some antique cut up quilt pieces online and plan to make hearts with lavender in them to sell at a show I am doing soon.  Minnie liked them so much she napped on them this afternoon on my hooking frame.

SIGNS OF SPRING-TOMATOES-CPR COURSE -LIL AND THE EASTER BUNNY

31 03 2013

Hello,

HAPPY SPRING

First Signs of Spring

Yesterday I saw the first shoots of Tulips and tonight for the first time this spring our neighborhood skunk sprayed around the entire house.   He may be the old fellow that would cross my son’s and my yard each evening last year around dusk.  But I did see him last night in the bottom of the barn.

Tomatoes

Today I saw the first  of my tomatoes just peaking their leaves above the ground.   I am planting more, I planted Roma Tomatoes and some flowers.  I still have more seeds to get.

OLIVER UPDATE

Ollie is improving slowly, he is eating and drinking well in spite of his mouth issues.  He is inspiring to me, in the midst of all of this he loves to be petted and purrs.

MINNIE

Minnie was exhausted from all the hustle of shearing day.

CPR REFRESHER

IMG_0037[1]

Yesterday the Colrain Fire Department offered a refresher course on CPR.  I took my last one 4 years ago.  Lots of things have changed.  It’s good to keep up with the changes.

LIL’S FIRST VISIT WITH THE EASTER BUNNY

IMG_0041[1]

Yesterday Pine Hill Orchard had their yearly Easter Egg Hunt.  The orchard was to wet so they had it near the petting zoo.  Lil got to meet the Easter Bunny, she quite liked him.  I don’t know who the other little girl was but she wanted to be in the picture too!

Hope you have a wonderful day and many thanks for reading my blog.    Carole

I will start today sorting although I need boxes in which to ship it off in.  All the wool is wonderful, but Maudes is especially nice.

SPRING – LOCKER HOOKING RUG – CHICKENS

18 02 2013

Hello,

SPRINGTIME IN THE SOUTH BEDROOM

It may be windy and bitter cold outside but in the south bedroom its spring.

WORKING ON THE LOCKER HOOKED RUG

I have started on the locker hooked rug.  Its slow going but will be worth it when its done.  I do like  rugs.  They are sturdy and stand the test of time .  I have had a few for many years,  they have been heavily used and they are still as good as the day I made them.  They are very thick.  They can be made out of any type of material.

P1020381All the roving is locked together with the yarn or thread.  The only thing that has to be purchased is the hook which you can buy online and the canvas which you can buy at Jo-Ann’s or online.    Its a very reasonable craft which can use old sheets old blankets, what have you.

P1020384As you can see the cream colors are different shades, some darker.  If I wanted to make a perfect rug I would have had a whole fleece, that way I could ensure that it would all be the same.    This rug was meant to use up leftovers so the cream will be different throughout.

When It’s through there is some sewing in of the ends of the roving and then its done.    When washing these rugs I either put them a set tub or in the sink and let them soak with some detergent and some  cool to warm water. Rinse well, I always add my herbal moth away concoction of essential oils to the final rinse to insure there will be no moth damage and hang to dry.

CHICKENS

The chickens have been enjoying the snack from the co-op.  Greens and cooked broccoli stems were the snack of the day.  Yesterday every morsel was eaten.

Happy days for them, I am grateful to the co-op , it gives the hens a lot of variety during winter.

Thank you so much for reading my blog and I hope you have a wonderful day.              Carole
