PUSSY WILLOWS-ONE MITTEN FINISHED

29 02 2016

GREETING

The weather has been crazy.  One day last week we had 3 inches of rain.  Roads and driveways washed out.

Rivers overflowed their banks.  Only a few patches of snow left in the woods.  Maple sugaring season has started.  Buckets are out and steam is coming from sugar houses and yes its mud season here.IMG_6469

PUSSY WILLOWS

Every year its gets harder and harder to reach the pussy willows. I am trimming them and have started some branches to root in water

MITTENS

I have started the second mitten  I have made a pair of these before but remember having an easier time with the decreasing on the top .  They are a dense mitten which will surely keep my hands warm.

FIBERuary is over and It was fun and  I learned so much from each blogger and presenter at Sheep and Shawl.  Be sure to check in with Sheep and Shawl and The FIBERuary site for more events that will be happening throughout the year.

CHICKENS

The two coops have merged and things have settled down.  The weather has been so warm that I have taken off the insulation on the door and am letting them out every day.

MRS. BROWN AND HAZEL-THE FIRST PAIR OF MITTENS FROM THE OLD SWEATER

22 11 2013

Hello,

There was snow on the ground when I woke up not even a covering yet but enough to see it,  It was a cold day, I did manage to do some outside things in the afternoon.

Mrs. Brown and Hazel

Mrs. Brown seems better today and is eating more.  I let them out together this morning and evening.  It was quite endearing.  He called her over to eat and then broke up the pieces of lettuce and dropped them in front of her.  They were both so happy.  They have never been without each other until this illness happened.

I am still not that great of the video thing but here is a short clip of them together this morning.

The Mittens

I finally got the mittens done from the old sweater.  I thought there would be a problem on my machine because they were thick but it was fine.  I used my hand as the pattern.  The rest of the mittens won’t be as easy as there will be no cuff and I will knit one.  This pair came from the sleeves.

MORE EGGS-FIND DRAFTS-OLD SWEATER INTO MITTENS-HOT CHOCOLATE MIX

16 11 2013

Hello

Today was a beautiful warm day, I wish I could have spent more time doing some outdoor chores.  I needed to get more medicine for the chickens and go to the dump.

MORE EGGS

I got 4 eggs today.  We will be back to normal in no time.  Hazel’s crow is almost as good as new,  I wonder if he will be able to go back to the coop or have to stay in for the winter.  If he has to stay in I will have to get a large bird-cage and move him upstairs.  I thought Lucy would like to go out today but now I think that wasn’t a good idea.  SHe is back inside and I will have to find a larger cage for her.

FINDING DRAFTS

IMG_1840

The front door is very drafty and today I found this material that I really like and I bought some cotton batting at the local fabric store.  I will get going on this one and one for the upstairs door this week, that will keep the cold out.  I very rarely use the front door anyway so this winter it will be closed permanently.

OLD SWEATER INTO MITTENS

IMG_1839

I bought this sweater last year, it had moth holes in it and I immediately put it in the freezer for a few months.  I have felted it and now I am cutting it up for mittens.  Tomorrow I will sew them on the machine.  I think I can get 4 or 5 pairs of mittens out of this sweater.

Hot Chocolate Mix

IMG_1838

I love hot chocolate in the winter.  The mixes are so expensive and are full of all sorts of things I can pronounce.  This year I have made a simple mix.  The contents are just unsweetened chocolate, sugar and salt.  I made a double batch and had my first cup tonight.  Of course I did add miniature marshmallows.

We are in for a cold snap and tonight I can feel it.  I hope you had a wonderful day and many thanks for taking the time to ready my blog.   Carole
