THE FARMERS MARKET-THE OLD TABLE-BREAD-FARMER’S MARKET HOOKED RUG-EGGS

7 06 2014

HELLO

THE FARMERS MARKET

The Farmers Market is located quite close to my friend Jane’s house in Shelburne Falls.  There were 11 vendors there selling everything from lamb and beef , bread, t-shirts and many veggie plants.  I didn’t sell many things but the crowds will come when there are fresh veggies available and it was my first day there this season.  Jane spent  almost the entire time with me spinning,

I was located next to my friend Barbara from whom I got 2 of my sheep from so the day was great.  Weather perfect.  My old table worked out perfectly although it is heavy.  i  bought the market umbrella several years ago contemplating doing a framers market and its worked out great.  Easy to put up and take down.

Barbara told me that my sheep Maude is now a Grandmother, with a late spring lamb born this week.

BREAD

I bought a beautiful loaf of bread there yesterday and it has inspired me to get my act together and make some.

I had a couple of slices of it and boy was it good.  There is nothing like homemade bread.

THE OLD TABLE

This old table was given to us in the 70’s.  Someone who didn’t appreciate the value and beauty of an old table.  New was so much better for their family.  Their loss was my gain.  It need some tender loving care,  but that will wait till next winter.  For now it is being used at the Farmers Market.  It’s perfect for that

MAKING BREAD -SHORTY-RUG HOOKING IDEAS

28 11 2012

HELLO

We didn’t get any snow to speak of although for a while it looked like it was going to add up.

MAKING BREAD

I felt like making some bread today.  This is my favorite bread recipe .  I made a Poppy Seed Braid and a Cinnamon Raisin  Bread.  Both came out good.

Shorty

Shorty went to the vets today.  He will have to go back at a later date for a dental cleaning but otherwise he is in good shape for 15  He was very upset at going but loved the treats he got when his check-up and shots were done.  He needs to rest on his favorite pillow for the rest of the day.  Traveling is so tiring!!

RUG HOOKING

This is a picture of the carpeting at the hotel.  It would make a wonderful abstract hooked rug.

Hope you have a wonderful day and thank you so much for reading my blog.      Carole

BAKING BREAD-RECIPE-ERNEST

22 09 2012

HELLO

Yesterdays bread came out terrible.  It did not mix well so the chickenS will enjoy it this morning.  In looking at the recipe the ratio of liquids to flour wasn’t right.    I decided to use my favorite bread recipe and make it by hand today.  I have used this recipe for almost 30 years.  WHen I lived in Belchertown I made home-made bread almost every week.  So today I added a few new ingredients to the recipe didn’t add the poppy seeds on top and we will see.

Here is the recipe:

GARLIC AND DILL BREAD

4 MEDIUM CLOVES OF GARLIC CHOPPED FINELY

2-1/2 TSP. DILL WEED

1/2 CUP OF SUGAR

2 TSP. SALT

1 CUP HOT MILK

1/2 CUP BUTTER

2 BEATEN EGGS , SEPARATING THE WHITES

2 PACKAGES DRY YEAST  (IF YOU BUY YOUR YEAST IN BULK ITS 4-1/2 TSP.)

1 CUP WARM WATER

6-61/2 CUPS KING ARTHUR WHITE FLOUR

PLACE SUGAR, BUTTER AND SALT, GARLIC AND DILL  IN A LARGE MIXING BOWL. ADD HOT MILK AND STIR TO SOFTEN BUTTER, COOL, THEN ADD IN THE EGGS AND BEAT TILL WELL MIXED.  PUT YEAST IN A SMALL BOWL AND ADD WARM WATER.   LET SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES.  ADD THE YEAST TO THE BUTTER MIX AND STIR THEN ADD 4 CUPS OF FLOUR, BEAT TILL SMOOTH.  ADD ENOUGH OF THE REMAINING FLOUR TO MAKE A SOFT DOUGH.  TURN OUT ONTO A FLOURED SURFACE AND KNEAD TILL SMOOTH 8-10 MINUTES.  PLACE IN A GREASED BOWL ,IN A WARM PLACE FOR 1-1/4 HOURS TO RISE TILL  DOUBLE IN SIZE.  LET REST 10 MINUTES.  CUT DOUGH IN HALF AND GREASE 2 LOAF PANS.  PLACE THE DOUGH IN THE PANS AND LET RISE TILL DOUBLE AGAIN APPROXIMATELY 45 MINUTES.  PREHEAT OVEN TO 400.  BRUSH LIGHTLY  THE BEATEN EGGS WHITES ON TOP OF EACH LOAF.  PLACE IN OVEN AND BAKE FOR APPROXIMATELY 25 MINUTES.

THIS RECIPE WAS ORIGINALLY CALLED POPPY SEED BREAD AND I BRAIDED THE BREAD AND PUT THEM ON COOKIE SHEETS TO RISE THE SECOND TIME .  I ADDED POPPPY SEEDS AFTER PUTTING ON THE EGG WHITES.  A VERY GOOD BREAD TO SERVE WITH SPAGHETTI.

Thanks for reading my blog and I hope you have a wonderful day.                                                                                                                                                                             Ernest is doing better today.

MORE INFO ON ANTIQUE APPLES – CATS (ERNEST DODGE) – MAKING BREAD

21 09 2012

HELLO

ANTIQUE APPLES

I got my last issue of Martha Stewart Magazine in the mail yesterday and just had a chance to glance at it today.  There is a great article about a man in Maine who puts up wanted posters for old antique apple trees, he is trying to save the trees.   Check out the article I think you will enjoy  it.

ERNEST DODGE

This morning I was getting ready to feed the sheep and pack the car when I noticed some blood on the floor.  Upon investigating I found it came from Ernest Dodge.  I called my Vet but he was away so I called the Emergency Vet in Deerfield and they said bring him in right away.  So off we went.  He has kidney disease and something wrong with his eye.  He is on fluids and antibiotics and goes back to his vet a week from today.  He does have to see an eye doctor at the emergency vets this coming week.

So I am not doing the show in New York state this weekend.  Ernest need watching carefully.  In the meantime Susan who was doing the show with me had done something to her cornea and wouldn’t be able to go either.  It was not meant to be for either one of us.

Ernest eating and resting after his ordeal.  He has a way of wrapping people around his little paw,  Everyone loved him at the emergency vets.

MAKING BREAD

Today because I had no plans except for the show I decided to do some things that I have wanted to do but  have been  too busy, like making bread.    Last week I bought a loaf of garlic/dill homemade white bread.  It was wonderful.  Then I wondered why I would pay $4.00 for that when I have a bread machine and all the ingredients and it would probably only cost me 50 cents for the loaf.

So today we will see and I will have pictures for you tomorrow.

Hope you have a wonderful day and thank you for reading my blog
