PROJECTS-GREEN MOUNTAIN RUG HOOKING GUILD-TEA’

8 06 2015

GREETINGS

After a beautiful weekend we are getting a few needed sprinkles this morning.  Tomorrow more showers.

PROJECTS

I have many unfinished projects and some i really want to get done before the end of the month.  I have piled them on the dining table and will try to pick one and finish it! The flag hooked rug was done 20 years ago and has been floating around.  I wanted to get it hung but just couldn’t decide how to do it and where to put it.  I figured it out and yesterday got it hung in an area where it wouldn’t get direct sunlight.  I love where it is and the spot needed a little color to it.

GREEN MOUNTAIN RUG HOOKING GUILD

Saturday the hooking guild had a meeting close to here.  Usually Deb and I have to drive a couple of hours  but Saturday it was in Brattleboro, Vermont less than a half hour from here.  I haven’t been to anything in almost 2 years,   It was good to see people and their projects.  Deb helped me get me going on the small punch needle and I will be doing more of that now.

WORKING ON THE LOCKER HOOKED RUG

I have started on the locker hooked rug.  Its slow going but will be worth it when its done.  I do like  rugs.  They are sturdy and stand the test of time .  I have had a few for many years,  they have been heavily used and they are still as good as the day I made them.  They are very thick.  They can be made out of any type of material.

P1020381All the roving is locked together with the yarn or thread.  The only thing that has to be purchased is the hook which you can buy online and the canvas which you can buy at Jo-Ann’s or online.    Its a very reasonable craft which can use old sheets old blankets, what have you.

P1020384As you can see the cream colors are different shades, some darker.  If I wanted to make a perfect rug I would have had a whole fleece, that way I could ensure that it would all be the same.    This rug was meant to use up leftovers so the cream will be different throughout.

When It’s through there is some sewing in of the ends of the roving and then its done.    When washing these rugs I either put them a set tub or in the sink and let them soak with some detergent and some  cool to warm water. Rinse well, I always add my herbal moth away concoction of essential oils to the final rinse to insure there will be no moth damage and hang to dry.

CHICKENS

The chickens have been enjoying the snack from the co-op.  Greens and cooked broccoli stems were the snack of the day.  Yesterday every morsel was eaten.

Happy days for them, I am grateful to the co-op , it gives the hens a lot of variety during winter.

Thank you so much for reading my blog and I hope you have a wonderful day.              Carole

SHORTY -OTHER RUGS TO FINISH

31 01 2013

Hello,

A great picture of the boys, Shorty, Sam and Willie enjoying the warmth by the pellet stove.

Shorty had a hard time coming home.  Wandering around the house crying and then wanting to be picked up.  He hasn’t been to the vets only for check-ups so that may be the answer.  He is sleeping a lot today but is much better than last night.

OTHER RUGS

I started these rugs in the late 80’s and never finished them.  It is locker hooking with roving.  I have everything to finish them and want to get it done.  I have made many locker hooked rugs and they are scattered around the house.   I have included some pictures of a few of them.  They are thick and soft rugs,  just the kind of rug you want to put your feet on first thing on a winters morn.

The above rug was from all natural dyed and natural colored rovings.  The blue is actually indigo.

I enjoyed doing this small one, but as you can see I ran out of the white roving and had to use another white one which is a different shade of white.
