EGGS AGAIN – FINISHED NY PROJECT-FUNK SHUN-CAT TOYS

16 11 2013

HELLO

The weather is warming up some, now I can get some of the outside chores done without freezing.  Buttoning up is a priority.

EGGS

The girls are slowly getting back to the egg laying business.  Alice has been laying these huge eggs for days now and someone else in the front coop has started laying again.

IMG_1826

One hen in the back is  laying too.  It’s so good not to have to buy eggs.

FINISHED NY PROJECT

IMG_1827

I finally finished the NY project and I like how it came out.  Subdued colors makes it look very primitive.   I plan to make another one with primitive flowers.  But now I am going to get going on finishing the Thanksgiving one.

FUNK SHUN

I needed to resupply some things at FUNK SHUN and look what Christa’s making.  Aren’t they so cute!!!!!

CAT TOY JAR

IMG_1830

I Spent some time today making cat toys and replenishing my cat toy jar which sits in the kitchen.  If I remember I hand out these toys to friends that come.  These are cat toys that aren’t quite up to par but perfect for any cats including mine.  I hope that over the winder I can make 250 cat toys to build up my supply for the year.

It was a beautiful day here at the farm I hope you had a wonderful day and many thanks for reading my blog.  Carole

LEMON BALM-MORE HOPS

20 09 2013

Hello

IMG_1348

It’s a beautiful day in Western Massachusetts, I am working on enjoying some of the day instead of inside sewing.  The Fall is a busy season here on the Farm.  SO many chores to do before the Winter hits.  I still have a lot of herbs to pick and dry and the beets to get pickled.  The days slip by so fast.  Fall is my favorite season but I love the pace of winter.  I can relax, no outside chores except for shoveling, more time to read, spin and hook.

PICKING THE HOPS

It’s delightful to pick the hops.   The chickens are chatting away while I am picking. The ones I planted last year by the north chicken coop have flourished.  They have even grown up the evergreen tree.  I had to put poles to hold the netting up.  I am reaping the harvest of them.  I think that I still should plant some in other spots next spring.

Lemon Balm

Yesterday morning I dried the hops it didn’t take long at all.  I picked some Lemon Balm and  dried that in the afternoon

IMG_1364

Some of the Lemon Balm I will use as tea and the rest will go into the Dream Pillows.   One of the things Lemon Balm is known for is relieving stress which goes nicely with the hops which are a relaxing herb which also bring peacefulness..

DREAM PILLOWS

I mixed up a batch of the dream pillow mix last night.

IMG_1366

I will make some hearts to take to FUNK SHUN today.  I thought it might be nice to package some up so that people can use their own bags or just tie it up in a piece of muslin.

SALVE

I also made up a batch of salve and will pick some more Comfrey today and make up another batch.

IMG_1365

I plan to dry some Comfrey so that I can make the salve during the winter.  It grows freely in my son’s back yard.

MINNIE BISBEE
Minnie Bisbee has changed so much since she has come up to the computer room and  bedroom.  Without the stress of other cats she has blossomed.  My helper in all computer work sometimes napping on the printer and sleeping by my side every night.  I have had other cats that  were like her but never came out of their shells.  She loves Pounce treats (she discovered them at the Vet’s office) and will look at the container and she does get a couple a day.

Many thanks for reading my blog on this day and I hope your day is wonderful.   Carole and MInnie

NEW THINGS IN EACH SHOP TODAY-COWS IN THE ROAD-MARLEY-A GREAT FIND

12 09 2013

Hello

MINNIE TAKING A REST WHILE I WRITE

MINNIE TAKING A REST WHILE I WRITE

NEW THING IN EACH SHOP

I have brought a hooked pumpkin face and two cat beds  to Funk Shun and some  Drop Spindle kits to Sheep and Shawl today.  Plus dropping eggs of at my old work place.

IMG_1318

I have got lots of cat beds cut out so I will be busy making them and cat toys for the next week or so.  They are good sellers and fun to do.  I have to hook more pumpkin faces too people just love them and hang them on their door.

COWS IN THE ROAD

Traveling on back roads is always an experience.  Yesterday when coming home, I saw 6-8  Jersey Cows happily eating someones lawn.  They were escapee’s from a pasture.  Which does go to prove that the grass is always greener.  I found someone who knew the owner and they were rounding them up when I left. It’s  moments like this that make my day.

Marley

I received a reply from the Shetland Sheep farmer today.  Her advice was spot on.  SHe thinks most of his ramming is because of fear.  He is terrified that he will be locked up again.  She feels that a firm NO and a few snacks in my pocket might do it but she also said something that is true don’t turn you back on him..   Instead of making a pen for him I have decided to make another gate which will shut them into the hay area.  That way I can clean either part of the barn without sheep in it and watering can be done with no sheep there.  It will make things easier for shearing and shots too and for when I go away.

A cold front is coming in and terrible thunderstorms and lots of rains and downed trees have come with them.  Tonight should be the last of them the cold front will be here tomorrow.

Yesterday while at Jo Ann’s Fabric store I saw the woman who cuts the cloth use these.  I asked about them and she said they were the best they ever used and they were 40% off.

I bought one for a little more than 6 dollars and love it. Many thanks for reading my blog and I hope you have a wonderful day.  Carole and Minnie

TOMATOES-EGGS-FUNK SHUN

30 08 2013

Hello,

MAUDE

MAUDE

The night air last night was perfect, cool and so good for sleeping.  Fall is coming with some trees already changing colors.  Its my favorite time of year.  The smells and sights are a delight.  Wood fires, pumpkins, brightly colored leaves.  The sounds of rustling leaves under your feet.  I look forward to it.

Tomatoes

I got a call from The Farm Stand that my tomatoes were ready.  30 pounds of them.

I  started them right away in the crock pot.  Diced up onions, peppers and garlic, added some herbs and a fresh bay leaf and left them for the rest of the day.

By the time I got back to them and tried them I decided that I would label them as soup.  What a great hardy soup for winter just add some pasta and top with cheese.  Today I am going to make another batch.  I want to dry some too.

EGGS

Sometimes I take for granted just how wonderful chickens and the eggs they produce are.  They are a beautiful creation and such a good whole food.  My chickens delight me every day.  They are smart, sensitive and very much like people in their activities.  I am so glad that I have them.  Every two weeks two dozen eggs go to a friend at my old job

IDEAS

I have felt that the area in my brain that produces ideas has been dead in the water and somehow in the past 3 or so months its come alive again.   I am not busy making things for the shops.  Finishing up some very old projects and finding new ones that will work for all 3 places.

Many thanks for reading my blog and I hope you have a wonderful day.  Carole

Feed Bags

I have been giving Christa my feed bags and she has been making these wonderful bags out of them.

This bag has my hooking frame and all my wool and tools in it.

Now she has horse ones  too.  They are so reasonable only $12.00 a piece.  They are lined and with a pocket.  The work so well for my rug hooking supplies.

Skunk Stories

Two nights ago I went up to give Sadie her water and the sheep their carrots and I heard a russle near the hay, there was the white tailed skunk, it seemed to be searching around for bugs, he walked near Sadie she baaed at it and it went elsewhere, checking things out, after realizing there wasn’t any good eating there he decided to go out the barn door.  Elliott saw him and walked over to it and it scurried out of the door.  Never spraying anything.  I am sure someday it will.

Last night the two of them were in the outside chicken area eating bugs and digging for grubs.  They seem to be wary of me but not really afraid.  I do hope they move on though, as cute as they are its not good for them to live so close to humans.

SMORES

Both last night and tonight the boys had smores.  Last night at David’s house and tonight we had them cooked over the rocket stove.

DYEING PURPLE AGAIN-OLD SILK SCARF-NEW CUSTOMER AT FUNK SHUN

4 08 2013

Hello

Yesterday I got an e-mail from Christa at FUNK SHUN that she had a kitty visitor in the store and he love the cat toys and Elliott’s wool.  This is the life playing with a catnip toy and laying on some nice wool.  He probably will be a regular.

OLD SILK SCARF

This scarf has been in my bureau drawer for years.  My Dad gave it to my Mom when he first met her.  It’s silk but has some holes in it and I want to keep it but need to do something with it.  Today I decided to incorporate  it in the  next few rugs that I will be making.  It will live another life in them.    I will dye it appropriate colors and that will be that.

I think that I will have to do a patriotic theme rug and include the Army insignia in it.

DYEING PURPLE AGAIN

I am doing some more purple dyeing today.  I cut up some of the scarf for the blueberry rug and then dyed the rest of the yarn and part of a skirt.  I dyed some for Debbie but I don’t think it will be light enough.

IMG_0980

The darkest piece is an old skirt that I bought and cut up.  The other pieces are for Deb if she wants them.

Many thanks for reading my blog on this beautiful summer day.  I hope you have a wonderful day.     Carole
