FARM TO FIBER

21 04 2013

Hello,

FARM TO FIBER

It was a cold and blustery day at the fair.  Lots of people in and out.  The advertising was poor  (something we will change next year) so we were missing a lot of the wool crowd.   It was good to see a lot of local people being introduced to wool productsIMG_0206                                                                   This is our first year at the fairgrounds and its a learning experience.  Come visit us today.IMG_0199

SETTING UP FOR THE SHOW-SITES ON THE RIDE HOME

20 04 2013

Hello,

Another beautiful spring day yesterday and we had rain during the night and today looks good too.

SETTING UP FOR THE SHOW

Yesterday with the little car loaded up to the top the three of us headed down to the fairgrounds.  With no one there the set up was easy, I still have more things to bring today.  I have the first booth coming in the door.  It is the Bee Keeping Booth at the Franklin County Fair.  All the booths in this Roundhouse are old shaped.  We did encourage people to look at the place so they know what they are getting.   We did our best to accommodate people who needed to change places.  Spinning will be an ongoing event throughout the 2 days.

THE LILAC

I bought this Lilac last year and planted it in a place where now I know that I shouldn’t have, for many reasons.  I can’t even remember the color but I think it is a dark one.  Lilac’s are one of my favorite flowers.  In almost every house I have lived in I have planted them near windows.  I love there wonderful scent.  When I moved in here there were many very old double whites and double purples.  They are still here.  And they almost tall enough to reach one of the upstairs bedrooms.    This one was pulled up during the winter and I thought it was a goner with its roots facing harsh winter conditions.    Low and behold there are buds on it so I moved it to a saver place near the porch.  I hope it will continue to thrive and bless me with wonderful flowers for years to come.

SITES ON THE RIDE HOME

The boys were exhausted, they were helping vendors bring in their wares all afternoon.  I had to stop at staples so we took another back road home.   We drop by this on the way home..

MAKING MOTH CHASERS-BOOKCASES-PELLETS

19 04 2013

Hello

Sammy had his routine interrupted today, finally he is getting some sleep.

Today was a beautiful spring day.  I was able to get the back coop hens out into a small area.  When I get back they will go into the area near my son’s house.  I will have to work on a place for the middle coop hens and Hazel when I get back.  I have an idea where they will go and I will have to make a summer coop for them.

MOTH CHASERS

Tonight I finished the Moth Chasers.  They are a good seller for me at shows.  They are made up of many moth repelling herbs and many moth repelling essential oils blended together and put into a bag.    The whole house smells wonderful.

THE BOOKCASE MOVE

The bookcases got moved today and all the books from downstairs too.  Most of my books will now be upstairs.  The boys did it all for me, it would have taken me lots of time and lots of advil to do this.

Chris and Ricky put most of the pellets away today and will finish it up tomorrow.  It will be good to have that ton stored away.  I plan to get another 2 tons to get me through next winter plus 2 cords of wood, which I hope to get next month.  I would rather put wood away when the weather is a little cooler.

Many thanks for reading my blog and I hope you have a wonderful day.                                               Carole

PERMACULTURE LECTURE

Last night I went to a lecture at The River Valley C0-Op.  The lecture was given by Lisa DePiano.  The hour and a half went by so quickly and so much information was passed on.  I am signed up for her lecture on the use of rain water in May, and can’t wait for that.  She gave us a recipe for seed bombs to make.  These are bombs made of clay , compost and seeds .  People actually throw these seed balls at vacant lots or in your own yard,  A fun project for kids and adults alike.  The lecture touched on planting , water, compost, heating, the list goes on and on.

Next week I hope to get my pallet strawberry bed made.   If you are interested in making one all you have to do is look up pallet garden on the internet and it will give you all the instructions.    I will have mine upright but in the winter I will lay it down on cardboard and cover it with hay .  I think it will do well.

MOM

We are hoping to move my Mom soon, not to far from where she is but a smaller place where she will get more care.  I will keep you posted.

Hope you have a wonderful day and many thanks for reading my blog.               Carole

FARM TO FIBER

We met at the Round Barn today to finalize the plans and let them know what to take out of the filled barn.    It’s a delightful site.  The show will be in 2 weeks and fiber people from all around will enjoy what the vendors have to offer.  Fleeces will be on sale too.

Clothesline

All winter long I have been trying to decide where to put the clothesline where it would be easy to get to and not in the way.  I finally made my choice and I think it will work well.

CAR PROBLEMS-RECYCLING-FARM TO FIBER-LIL

16 02 2013

Hello,

This morning I was all ready to go to my knitting class and then a meeting for Farm To Fiber and my car wouldn’t start.  This little car of mine has been an absolute dream, hardly any problems.  Well in the end it was entirely my fault, I had not shut the hatch all the way.  I called AAA and someone came in less than an hour.  5 minutes later it was running and while he was filling out the paperwork we chatted.  Murphy was crowing in the background so the conversation went to chickens.  He has 14 hens and then mentioned his son who all of a sudden is recycling and commenting on what is being thrown away in the household.   I mentioned the No Impact show and he said he wished more people would get involved with things like that.

Since watching that show I have really been watching what I am throwing away.  Lots of packaging you can recycle but the plastic packaging can’t be recycled.     I want to get away from that so I will get myself into a habit buying in bulk, buying more at the health food store where I can bring in my own container and bringing my own recycled storage bags to the grocery store with me to buy lettuce and the like.  There are lots of little things one can do.  We don’t have to be like the no impact people we just need to do what we can.

FARM TO FIBER

The meeting was today and I wasn’t able to attend but I did go down and pick up the post cards.  They came out beautiful and I will ge some out soon.  We are almost full so I think the event will be quite successful.  Here is a picture of the card.  Sorry bit my camera seems to be acting up too.

SANTA HOOKED RUG – OLIVER – LENNY’S YARN -FARM TO FIBER MEETING

7 12 2012

Hello

HELLO

Yesterday and last night there was a wind blowing.  I like the sound of the wind but not 50 mile per hour winds.  Especially in the winter we will have winds howling down the mountain in back.  The snow will  be whirling and twirling and I will be cozy in my house.  Keeping this old house cozy is no easy job.  I have a wood stove in the kitchen, a pellet stove in the dining room and an oil furnace in the basement.  Someday I would like to eliminate the oil furnace.  The wood and pellets are local.

I have finished the Santa rug.  I barely had enough of the purple-blues to finish it and had to dye another piece.  I did hand sew the edges and filled it with bay leaves to help prevent moths.  Tonight I will sew a backing on it  and hang it..

OLIVER

My wild cat Oliver is going to the vets tomorrow.   He is a solitary cat who is afraid of everything.  I can’t catch him and rarely can touch him.  At Brookside Animal Hospital in Greenfield they are sensitive to his needs.  I know he is having some problems and will be glad to have him seen.  Its surprising to me that he is like that as I still have two of his brothers and they just love to be handled(Shorty and Angus).  Although he has another brother that is very similar to himself  living with my friend Charlie.

I wanted to show you a picture of Lenny’s yarn.  I really need to make some mittens of fingerless gloves  out of this yarn soon.  I  thought that it said 1949 but it says 1947 and it tells the yardage and the knots in each skein.

FARM TO FIBER MEETING

We are still looking for a few more vendors.  If you are interested in doing a fiber show in April please e-mail me.   It will be our first show at the Roundhouse at the Greenfield Fairgrounds.   The spot is unique and we are very excited to be able to hold this fiber event there.  So far we have rug hooking vendors, lots of yarns and wearable.  All kinds of fiber and a fleece sale.

Thank you for reading my blog and hope you have a wonderful evening.       Carole
