A LIGHT IN THE BARN WINDOW-MRS. BROWN-EGGS-BLACK WALNUTS SHEEP

20 11 2013

HELLO

A LIGHT IN THE BARN WINDOW

Last night I put a light in the barn window.  When I first started my blog I was looking for something to call it and was going to call it Through The Barn WIndow.  The window is near the tallest part of this old post and beam barn.  It looks out to the western sky past my neighbors Hemlock tree.  In the winter snow glistening off the tree and the dark blue sky littered with starts is wonderful. Summertime brings a different view with purple, crimson, orange and yellow gold sunsets.  I look up and out of it everyday.  It’s a peaceful time in this busy life, time to just enjoy the beauty and hear the sounds of the sheep and Elliott happily munching away at hay and carrots.

THE CHICKENS

Today I tried everything to get Mrs. Brown to eat, I think that the antibiotic’s kicked in because she is eating now and her eye is open and looks a lot less inflamed.  She heard Hazel making a ruckus like he does when he has something good to eat, calling the girls so she tried some of hers.  Yea.

SHEEP

I keep two chairs upstairs where the hay it.  I love sitting there listen to the sounds of the sheep.  The barn smells of a mix of wool and hay.

EGGS

Today was a banner day 4 beautiful eggs.  I am so happy to have my own eggs again, nothing like eggs fresh from your own hens.

BLACK WALNUTS

The black walnuts are finally dried.  I have already made two batches of dye with them and there are many more batches left in them.  Gary picked them up on his daily walks while he was here.  I also have a batch already made in the freezer.

CORNELIUS-TROUBLE IN THE HEN HOUSE-GETTING WOOL READY FOR NY-BLACK WALNUTS

28 09 2013

HELLO,

Cornelius has been in the barn the past several nights.  He is like a post man.  He has his appointed rounds and lets nothing stop him from them.

TROUBLE IN THE HEN HOUSE

Well yesterday i removed one hen that was picking on the little oneS.  Last night when I put then to bed I left that hen in with Murphy, she was sleeping in one of the nest box all nice and cozy.  I shut the lights off and went to go upstairs to feed Sadie and there was so much screeching in the hen-house.  Her friend was letting me know someone was missing.  This went on the  whole time I was feeding the sheep.  So I went downstairs and got the other one out of the nest box (she really didn’t want to leave) put her in the with her friend.  Everything settled down when she saw her friend.  But this morning she was picking on them again so she is back in with Murphy.   When the little ones are a little bigger it will work out.

Getting Wool Ready for NY

A good part of the day was spent getting wool packaged up for the New York show in October.  I got 45 packages of Elliott’s dyed roving and 25 of dyed fleece ready to go

I have been cutting out small turkey’s for small wall hangings.  I cut out the 5 turkey’s today and will assemble them on pieces of wool tomorrow.  Then they will be ready to hand sew.

BLACK WALNUTS

Gary walked every morning and found these black walnuts along the road side.

Tomorrow I plan to put them in the dye pot and make some black walnut dye.  I have loads of wool fabric to dye and  this  dye will fit in with the fall colors that i have on hand..

I potted up the rest of the house plants, although the weather is suppose to be beautiful through Monday you just never know when a frost is coming and its good to get the plants in before it gets too cold.

Many thanks for taking the time to ready my blog.  I hope you have a wonderful day.   Carole
