11 10 2015

GREETNGS

We had some needed rain on Friday and a hint of frost last night.   Another beautiful fall day.  Chris is here helping me and we had a camp fire at my son’s house last night with S’mors.  It is the simple things in life that mean so much.

THE HEAT IS GONE-ANOTHER ATTIC FIND-MINNIE’S DOCTOR VISIT-A RARE SPOTTING

10 07 2014

GREETINGS

THE HEAT IS GONE

Violent thunderstorms and torrential rains were suppose to come last night as the humidity left and cooler air came in.  The clouds sure looked like that was going to happen.

IMG_3425  We did get some mild thunder and lightning and some rain but that was it.  We were spared for the second night in a row.  I am enjoying the cooler weather and will do so for another couple of days before the another bout of humidity comes.

OTHER ATTIC FINDS

Today I found a few things.  Some post cards of Holyoke from the 40’s.  These were sent from my Dad while he was in China to his bride to be.

IMG_3428

They described Holyoke which my Mother had never seen and where she would live a good part of her life.

The roasting pan  belonged to my Grandmother who passed away before my Mom and Dad were married.  As a child I remember the wonderful meals that were cooked in that pan.

MINNIE’S VISIT

She certainly doesn’t like going to the Vets.  It was a quick visit today just  having a blood draw and thats more than enough for little Minnie.  Her weight has dropped from 6.4 pounds to 6.2 pounds in spite of my efforts to get her to eat and drink.  She now drinks out of water glasses and is not interested in cat dishes at all.  Her test came out good so she does not need to go back for three months.  I hope I can increase her weight some before she goes back.  Coming home from the vet’s there was a lone baby Canadian Goose crossing the road.

A  RARE SPOTTING

Yesterday afternoon I went to pick up 5 bales of hay at Joe’s.  I was almost at his house when I passed a stone cellar hole where a house once stood and there was a coyote.  I thought it was a wolf  but came home and looked it up on the internet and it was a coyote.  It was a beautiful regal  creature one that I wouldn’t like to see near my house although I know there are some on the range across from me.  No pictures by the time I turned my camera on it was gone.

Many thanks for reading my blog on this delightful day.   Carole

COLRAIN AND THE CRAFTS OF COLRAIN-MARLEY-SWEET ANNIE=MINNIE BISBEE

4 10 2013

Hello

COLRAIN AND THE CRAFTS OF COLRAIN

This is the view coming into Colrain.  Its beautiful in any season but Fall is the best with all the wonderful colors.

IMG_1503

All the signs are up for the Crafts of Colrain, In another 6 weeks it will be here and people will delight in what we all have to offer.

IMG_1502

MARLEY

A couple of days ago I got the Primer Fence catalog.  I had bought the parts to build the feed bin from them.  People have been telling me about this face thing that you put over a rams face and they can’t see forward. therefore they cannot butt people or other sheep.  Where here it was in print.

IMG_1489

I am going to order one.  It will take time for him to get used to it and I will only use it when I will be away, in the spring and when I need to clean the barn.  No separate yard, no real changes for him except occasionally he will have to wear this mask.  I think some grain may entice him.

SWEET ANNIE

Yesterday I picked most of the Sweet Annie and some of the artemisia.  I wanted to get it picked before we had any rain.  I did leave some to reseed itself for next year.

HESTER AND THE NORTH HENS

As you can see Hester has finally grown her feathers back only one stylishly purple one left

IMG_1494

The other hens are coming along well.  As soon as I finish the hen house they will move inside and will still have a small yard till the snow flys.

MINNIE BISBEE

Well I have spent a small fortune on dried food for Miss Bisbee, she didn’t like any of it.  So I have given up and bought a small bag of Fancy Feast of course she gobbled it down.  She just loves Fancy Feast and its not the best thing for her kidney disease but at least she is eating it.  Maybe now she will put on a little weight with the addition of dried food.

Many thanks for reading my blog today, I am sharing one more picture for my  you and my friends who are in Alabama and are missing the fall.  Its taken right near my house.

WALK TO HIGH LEDGES-CORNELIUS-VISIT TO SHEEP AND SHAWL-SCENES OF COLRAIN

24 09 2013

Hello

CORNELIUS

Well those of you who know me know that I couldn’t have an animal around for a while without naming it. I have named the skunk Cornelius.  It suits him.  He may or may not stay but one thing for sure he has rid the place of mice.  No signs of them anywhere.  I don’t see him as often but know he is still around.  I do hope he stays around  I wouldn’t want him to spray anyone but as long as he is not afraid that won’t happen.

HIGH LEDGES IN SHELBURN

My son David , Cousin Gary and I hiked up to High Ledges in Shelburn this afternoon.

Praying Mantis

Yesterday as we were driving to Deerfield to Sheep and Shawl I felt something on my arm.  It was a baby Praying Mantis.  In my lifetime I have never seen a baby.  It was only about an inch long, I hope it finds a good place to winter over.

GARY AND LIZ WITH ALL THAT BEAUTIFUL WOOL

We dropped Maude’s cards off at Sheep to Shawl.  It’s really filling up with everything wool.  It looks great.  Wool for all your needs.  My drop spindle class will be held this coming weekend if there is enough people.  If you are interested check out the website and call to register.

Gary and I cleaned the barn today, it was a beautiful day to do it. No frost for at least another week.  Many thanks for reading my blog today and I hope you have a wonderful day.   Carole

GlOOMY DAY-GARY COMES FOR A VISIT-SITES ON THE BACK ROADS-MAUDE’S CARDS

22 09 2013
  1. Yesterday was a  gloomy day here in Western Mass.  Raining most of the day and the  dampness has seeped into the house.  Sammy’s respiratory problems have reared their ugly heads these past few days.  I am  setting up a humidifier in his room.   The sun came through this morning but its much cooler with plenty to cool breezes.  The change is light and coolness coming on has led the hens to stop laying and they are moulting.  I am getting one or two eggs per day instead of the 5 or 6.  They need the time off.  It will be good to get the new hens this week.

COMPANY COMING

My cousin Gary came last night from Maryland on Amtrak today.

IMG_1372

He and I have train travel in out blood.  Our Grandfather worked for 41 years on the Pennsylvania railroad.

My visits to Maryland as a child were all about trains and most times my Mom and I would travel down there by train.  Train travel in the United States isn’t as convient as it used to be.  When I was young trains stopped almost at every town.  Now they only stop at cities.  Gary came into Brattleboro, Vermont which is only a half hour from my house.

Some wonderful scenes from he drive on the back roads to Brattleboro .

MAUDE’S CARDS

Friday I had a few of Maude’s photo’s made up into cards.

IMG_1375

This morning Gary and I cut and folded them.  We are heading down to Sheep and Shawl this afternoon where they will be for sale.  I was so lucky to get this shot, it was on a dark day she was having an afternoon nap.  She is such a happy sheep you can see it in her face.  I am lucky to have her.

Many thanks for reading my blog today and I hope you have a wonderful day.   Carole
