WINTER’S GRIP- SENIOR LUNCH-A GLIMPSE AND SMELL OF SPRING-LIL

GREETINGS

WINTER’S GRIP

The 3 day storm left us with well over a foot of snow.  We did find room to put it, more is expected on Thursday into Friday.  I don’t mind the snow so much but its the bone chilling below zero temps that bother me.  Anyone  who has spent a good deal of time outside may have had some finger frostbite.  This bitter cold plays havoc with that.

Snow gives one a chance to see what is coming to your property I have rabbits, raccoons and all sorts of birds moles too  Of course neighbors cats come too.  What’s on your property?

Lots of ice this year.

Lil loves the snow.

SENIOR LUNCH

Today is senior lunch day.  I look forward to it each month.  It’s a chance for me to meet people in town. A good meal and good conversation.  Its educational too with people  talking about health insurance and local events.

THE SMELL OF SPRING

The grouping of hyacinth’s has made my kitchen smell wonderful and spring like.I like the grouping idea so much that I plan to do it in a few more rooms next year.  Just what I need to get rid of the winter drearies.

MAKING YOGURT

Yesterday I made yogurt for the chickens.  Its good for them and a good way to use up milk that has gone a little off.  I seem to be making a lot more these days.

My son’s boys shoveled yesterday and uncovered the woodpile.  I hope to get the rest of the wood on the porch today so I can get to cleaning the barn.  Seed catalogs are pouring into my mailbox and many interesting ways to garden are now showing up on facebook.   Hope you have a delightful day and many thanks for reading my blog.  Carole

Beautiful photo of Lil, she looks so cute. I forgot to do any hyacinths this year. Have all our seeds for this year, broad beans are well up in a propagator, time for us to start the tomatoes off. Spring will soon be here.

We can start planting inside the third week of April. Lst frost here could be around the end of May; Short growing season. A hoop house would prolong the season. Have you seen on y tube the planting with straw bales? It’s looks interesting .

strawbalegardens.com should help. I love the idea and it would work on my hill and I could create pathways and not worry about falling.

Yes I found it, it sounds a great idea, we will try it as an experiment with tomatoes, two plants in a bale and two plants in bags as we did them last year and see what the result is. I am also thinking maybe of trying it for some strawberry plants.

I thought it was a great idea in a be easier to plant because you don’t have to get on your hands and knees the watering may be an issue but I think I’m going to attempt it this year at least do one row of them more snow coming I’ll be glad when this winter is over
