THE 40TH MASSACHUSETTS SHEEP AND WOOL FEST

25 05 2014

HELLO

THE MASSACHUSETTS SHEEP AND WOOL FEST

Yesterday was the first day of the fest and what a  day it was.  Crowds of people came, lots of sheep, so if you haven’t come yet there is still another day.

JUDGING OF THE FLEECES

This is my second of a two-year stint of Judging of the fleeces.  I love doing this as I just love the world of spinning and sheep.  There were about 63 fleeces entered  and I had two wonderful helpers.  There wasn’t a fleece there that I wouldn’t have taken home to spin.    Even though this one didn’t win first I especially liked an Icelandic fleece that was coarse.  As soon as I touched it thought of the durable socks that this fleece would make.

Another interesting fleece was a Horned Dorset.  It was beautiful.

Two of my spinning students  bought wonderful fleeces and I met a wonderful person Beth who follows my blog.  Patti came and we chatted about our chickens and we will meet Thursday night for the talk and slides about Orkney at SHeep and Shawl.

The show is like a family get together.  People who  I have known for over twenty years have stopped by, my good friend Renee and her Mom were there.

We have all spent memorable times there in spinning contests and sheep to shawl.   I will be working closely with Susan helping with the Sheep to Shawl hoping to get more interest in it next year.

Here are some pictures of some beautiful fleeces.  See you at the fair today.

Thanks for the compliment!! Also, thanks for posting the fleece pictures. I believe the “Champion” is one of the fleeces I purchased and was unable to copy the information. Now I at least can have a picture of the ribbon. Beth

Hi Beth,
So glad to meet you. I will mention about getting the information to the person who handles the fleeces. Its a good idea for the buyer to have the comments too. It was a beautiful fleece.
