YEARLY BATTLE WITH JEWEL WEED-PAYING FOR NOT HAVING A LAWN-TEENAGE CHICKS

15 05 2014

HELLO

MY YEARLY BATTLE WITH JEWEL WEED

Its started, there are surely thousands of Jewel Weed plants on my property.  They love living here.  I know I pull up thousands every year and give them to the chickens.  I like the plant but enough is enough.  Maybe I will try some for  dye this year.

THE WORK IS DONE ON THE HOUSE

The work is done on the house and the original men that came up finished up yesterday.  unfortunately the men who came in between ruined my heirloom apple tree and a Hydrangea Tree.

NO LAWN PAYMENT

I was listening to VPR this afternoon and they were talking about the drought in California.  In some communities they are paying people $.50 per square foot to take out the lawn.  I guess I am ahead of the times I took out mine 14 years ago.   I no longer worry about a lawn mower, gas and weed whacking, I have beautiful flowers all  spring , summer and fall, there are  fruit trees and some Hazel nut trees now on the property. Pussy willows for early spring, bittersweet for fall decorations and greens for the CHristmas season.  My neighbors still mow their lawns so I don’t miss out of the smell of freshly cut grass. I mulch my yard with barn and chicken shavings, hay and manure so no watering is needed during the summer.  I have noticed some houses in Greenfield that have done the same thing, it might  becoming a trend.  Less work and money paid out in the end.

TEENAGE CHICKS

Oh my the chicks are teenagers, getting into all sorts of trouble and driving their  Mother  crazy.  They are so cute always hungry, and alway watching me and Mom.  I hope that they will be out in the coop by the weekend.  I will miss them but my kitchen will be mine again.

WE ARE HUNGRY

Many thanks for reading my blog on this sunny, warm day and I hope that you enjoyed your day.  Carole

Jewelweed sure is prolific, isn’t it? I have a lot as well. Multiples like rabbits. I hope your apple tree recovers. (Ouch!) It is always a worry of mine having work done, I have gardens everywhere. November is the best time, but who works then? Your chicks are charming, love that photo!

Oh it sure is. I will make up a salve with it but that uses so little. Morticia hass done a great job of raising them. I hope they are hens but either way I will keep them all.
