RAINVILLES-A FAVORITE SHOPPING PLACE GONE-DYEING WOOL

Hello

RAINVILLE’S

First let me say I am not a big fan of change.  I have had to make many changes in my life most of them disagreeable, but they had to be done.  Rainville’s is one of the changes I really dislike.

When I first moved here and was tight on money, my friend Lynn introduced me to Mr. Rainville.

He was a retired fellow who ran a used everything shop in a barn next to his house.

He was open most of the year and knew where everything was in his crowded store.  His prices were great and the quality was too.  He had all kinds of furniture including an old large desk that now is in my Son-In-Law, Rick’s office in Boston.  I have bought many things from him, tools and furniture.  He passed away several years ago and his store stood vacant. Then the property went up for sale.  He owned a lot of property and was proud of it.  Someone bought the property and divided it all up into lots.  It’s all about money these days who ever bought it will make a killing on it, that is if he can sell all of it.  When I go by the property now I am so sad, there will probably be all these McMansions on those lots and the property will be forever ruined in my eyes.    Now there is nowhere to go close by to get free advice and reasonable used tools.  It’s like its an end of an era.

When I was a child we had a place where we could go and  get the same type of things.  Tools and furniture.  It was in Conway, Mass. and called Mr. Parkers. I can still picture where it was and what was in the shop.  My Grandfather and Mr. Parker would talk about town things and people they both knew.  My Dad and Mom bought many things there and a trip to see Mr. Parker was always a fun event.  So maybe there is hope that another person will open a store like Mr. Rainville and Mr. Parker’s  and again  we will have the opportunity to buy good used products at a reasonable products.

Mr. Parker and Mr. Rainville were icons in my life.  Hard working and honest they are missed by everyone who knew them.

Spring

The snow is gone and bulbs are finally coming up.  Finally its been a long time coming.

DYEING WOOL

I don’t have any purple fleece left so this evening I threw some Romney fleece in a pot and added blue and red.  Its in the sink draining and I will rinse it in the morning.  I am planning on doing more tomorrow.
