GOODBYE SADIE

HELLO IMG_0940 GOODBYE MY SADIE GIRL

I used to think that Sadie’s Mom Lottie was my favorite sheep but now I know that Sadie is.  SHe has shown such grace, dignity, courage and the ability to adapt to any new situation that arose.  It was last year about this time that she decided that she couldn’t sleep in the pasture anymore and it was too hard for her arthritic ridden legs to go up the hill, so she stayed inside the barn still walking around.  I would take her into the hay section of the barn to eat and a few months later she just laid down in the hay section.  Another decision for her, she was tired of getting stepped on  by the other sheep.  Her world became smaller but she adapted.  About 2 months ago she lost some teeth and found a way to still eat and enjoy her food.  In the last 2 weeks she has gone downhill and yesterday she laid down. P1020514 We understood each other very well, she had certain baa’s for food and for water, an other baa for Cornelius is in the barn and a  baa saying she has toppled over and needed help getting up.  She would have been 17 February 2nd a very old age for a sheep.

SHE LOVED HER GRAIN

SHE LOVED HER GRAIN

On this farm its hard for me to lose any animal.  I love them all so dearly. they become members of my family.  Even as a child I was always an animal person understanding them much better than I could understand people.  I remember one time at a cousins farm he had two large draft horses, my love for horses got me into the pasture with them, talking to them, my parents and cousin were so upset and told me to stand still.  After the rescue my cousin said that the horses were dangerous and I was lucky that I wasn’t tramped on, I had no fear of them and I knew they wouldn’t hurt me.

Today as I say my goodbyes to Sadie, I see her meeting up with her Mom and her friends and her sister Lana.  I know that I will see her again.  Carole

Oh Carole, so sad to hear Sadie is gone. But it seems it was the right time and you both knew it. She will be missed but I agree that in some way we will be reunited with all our animals on the other side. My thoughts are with you on this day. Patti
