THE CHICKEN MAN

The Chicken Man, John is recovering and will slow his business down for the winter months.  But come spring he will be in full swing again.  He will have some hens for me and my friend Lynn.  He had put aside a Welsummer which we had talked about in the spring so I know that I shall have one of them, 2 Bantams and Amerancana.  I will be extremely happy with these hens.

NO FROST AND THE TOMATOES

It was quite chilly this morning but no frost.  I have left the plastic on the tomatoes because it is to be cold again tonight.  When I inspected the tomato plants it was wonderfully warm under there, many of the tomatoes that were green yesterday had tinges of orange on them today.

This proves the need for a hoop house to make my goal of self sufficiency come true.  I can see that I could grow many things through-out the winter.  I am going to look into this again this fall and look for used ones on Craig’s list.

THE CARROTS

Here are the pictures I promised you.

As you can see you need to have some space between them..  I t takes almost a whole small bale of shavings to do this large trash barrel, I recomend the large flaked shavings as they simply fall off the carrots.  I will reuse the shavings in the chicken coop.

I had a helper in the garden today, Carol Kinnevan thought I had something in the bowl for her.
