Hello
Freezing and Drying Vegetables and Herbs
This morning I have been putting corn and peppers and herbs in the dehydrator.
The first layer is some string beans and peppers the second two layers are corn and the last layer is herbs. I want to make a jar of veggie soup mix so I can make up a quick veggie soup when I am real busy in the winter. Of course it won’t be the 5 minute kind that you buy in the store but I think it will reconstitute maybe in 15 minutes. Later when my tomatoes come in I will also dry them and some shredded carrots and thin sliced celery. The dehydrator uses little electricity and it will be done in no time
GETTING SALLY’S AND LUCY’S WOOL READY TO BE SHIPPED
Yesterday I decided to start going through Sally’s and Lucy’s wool.
It should have been sent out ages ago. Its one of those jobs that keeps getting put off. Two reasons for that, it’s a tedious job and there is a big upfront money commitment. A big deposit is required and there is also the large postage fee’s which could cost upwards of $60. a box. But the time has come to do it, its been sitting in the kitchen since the spring. It took me over 2 hours to pull all the hay and separate the good fleece from the bad fleece. I have three more bags to go through and then they are off. I usually sent it to a company in Canada which has made wonderful yarn for me from Wilbur’s wool in the past, but this year because of the shipping cost and timeI am going to try an American Company I used before. I hope that I can get the wool back before the New York Show if not I will have it for the shop and Crafts of Colrain.
The wool company suggested that I try and stuff as much wool into a box as possible so the above is one fleece and I will try and get another one into the box. This fall I hope to put coats on the sheep for the winter. The winter is really when all the hay and chaff gets into their wool and it can be prevented with coats.
RICKY’S 15TH BIRTHDAY AND THE ATV
Monday Ricky was Ricky’s 15th birthday, we celebrated it with two cakes for both he and Tyler. Tylers birthday was in late July.
Yesterday Ricky learned to drive David’s ATV.
He did a lot of hauling things for the dumpster and moved the hay from the front to the back of the house. He had a great time and it helped me out a lot. Today the two boys are leaving to spend sometime with their other Grandparents and take a trip to their Uncle Mike’s house in Long Island. They will be back on Tuesday for their last week here.
Sadie Report
Sadie is doing well, of course at her age that could change at any moment.
Many thanks for reading my blog and I hope you have a wonderful day. Carole
