Its warmer today then it was yesterday, thunder showers are coming in tonight, then the humidity comes.  The warmer weather will make the plants and seed pop.

I was not kidding when I said I have thousands of jewel weed plants.  Underneath all  of them are willow and blackberries and raspberries.  I hope to get most of them pulled within the next two weeks.  I will save some to make salve for poison ivy.  The chickens enjoy eating them.

Garlic Scapes

I am trimming the Garlic scapes today.

I have frozen some in years past to add to soups and dried some which worked out well, adding them to my herb seasoning mix for soups.  Many people use them fresh in stir fries.  If you don’t remove them all, most of the growth will go into them instead of  the bulb.

The Garden

Some of the pumpkins are coming up but I will have to replant soon.

Lots of them got washed away with the heavy rains.  The watermelons are scattered all over the yard.  The beans are coming up good and the onions too.  If all the onions take I should have more than enough for the winter and the cost was $2.95 for around 200 small sets.  I did put another bean pole out in the front and planted some more green beans.  Tomorrow the dehydrator comes out, the spearmint and cat nip are ready.   After they are done I want to do the soup herbs.

The Skunk

The skunk dug a hole under the kitchen yesterday and I have not see it since.  I do hope it’s not a she!!!!!!!  I have got my trap out but not set….. we will see….

Many thanks for reading my blog and I hope you have a lovely day.     Carole

Mary Jane

Carole, the garden sounds like it is coming along great. I personally get weary just reading about all you are doing, so it is fun to read about it, but I wish I had your energy! MJ
