Hello,

For several weeks now I have been hearing the sounds of a hen getting ready to become broody.  Morticia has been talking up a storm, checking out the two nest boxes in her area.  Today I fluffed up the nest boxes and added some fresh hay.  Each one was inspected carefully and then she let Mrs. Brown know which one she liked  and Mrs. Brown immediately went into one and fixed it up.    Every year Mrs. Brown and Morticia lay and steal eggs and sit on them for a couple of months  The duties are shared by both of them.  One year several hatched only to be killed by something.  This year if they start a nest and chicks hatch I will move them into a large dog carrier inside the house. till they are bigger.

Mrs. Brown spent quite a bit of time fluffing up the hay so that the egg would lay on the shavings.

THE STRAWBERRY PALLET

Yesterday I worked on the strawberry pallet and I hope to have it done today.  I also worked on the new small area added to the front area chickens.  I think that I will need another roll of snow fencing but that will come later.

I have tied it to the chicken fence .  It will have to be watered until well established and I may tilt it a little more.  It is south facing but has the shade of a large crab apple tree in the late afternoon.  I hope it works out as it saves space and I can easily put netting over it to protect it from the birds.

Peas planted

I did get the peas planted  yesterday, its late but they will still do well.
