GOOD MORNING

4 + inches of snow yesterday and overnight.  It looks like this will be a good season for maple syrup farmers.

If I just set a box down there is a cat in it in minutes.  Sammy liked this box.  Shorty tried and and looked around and decided it wasn’t for him.

THE BOY’S SNOW BLOWING

CHRIS

CHRIS

In 2011 I decided to get an electric snow blower.  I looked at all the options and decided to buy it from Gardners Supply of Vermont. I have been very happy with everything I have bought from them.  I had planned to use this to keep the barn door upstairs clean of snow.  I didn’t use it at all last year.  Today while looking for my snow shovel I saw the blower and got it out.

RICKY FINISHING UP THE PATH

RICKY FINISHING UP THE PATH

The boys did a wonderful job making a path to Davids house.  It was quick and easy.  You do have to push it but don’t have to lift the snow.  Its lightweight and easy to pick up and move.

PIZZA

The boys take turns making a meal once a week.  So tonight Ricky made Pizza.  It was so much better than store bought and I didn’t have to do anything.  Ricky bought me a pasta machine on his last trip here so one day we will make pasta.

Hoping that you have a wonderful day  and thank you for reading my blog.    Carole

POTATO CATALOG – MORE SNOW – SPRING FLOWERS

HELLO

It’s snowing quite a bit now and we are supposed to get at least 4 inches.  All the errands are done and we have settled in.

I received this catalog yesterday in the mail.  I think when its time to order potatoes I will order from them .  They do not buy or sell monsanto seed and are  certified organic.  They also sell pasture seed and I would like to offer the sheep more grazing area.  And they are sort of local, Maine.  They have been farming organically since 1976.

WOOD PILE

My wood pile is slowly dwindling down.  I think I have used 1/3 of the 1-1/2 cords.  I will need to get at least 2 cords next year.

The Hyacinth’s have just started blossoming out.  I love the smell and with snow on the ground  they are more special.                                                   Many thanks for reading my blog and I hope you have a wonderful day.  Carole

HOOKING WITH HANDSPUN MORE SNOW!!!!

28 12 2012

GOOD MORNING

P1010859

The snow is beautiful this morning.  My son did all the plowing and shoveling, which is wonderful.  I have a few areas that I would like to do this afternoon.  I love having the 4 seasons.  Of course by March I am sick of winter.  To me its a peaceful season, a time for quiet reflection, no outside chores so I can concentrate on things that I want to do inside.  Finishing up some of my projects, and reading books are things that happen mostly in the winter.

I started this in the spring.  I have lots of roving from Elliott and want to get some of it used up in a rug.  The spun yarn is very durable and will stand up to years of punishment.  I am trying to use up handspun yarn,  I can see now that it will be a rest of my life task, but this rug will make a dent in it.

I am hoping that you have a wonderful day.  We are expecting more snow tomorrow!!!!!!   Thank you for reading my blog.                                             Carole

WINTER STORM – BETTYS HORSES-LIL

27 12 2012

HELLO

The snow has already started and we are supposed to get at least 6 inches then some sleet and freezing rain.  Tomorrow will be quite messy.   I am so glad that I don’t have to even think about going to work.  We are ready for the snow, My son put the plow on the ATV and the sheep are snug in the barn.  I picked up a supply of carrots and cabbages at Atkins so they are all set.

As the wood stove dies out Shorty is getting the last bit of warmth from it and Willie is out like a light in front of the pellet stove.

Betty’s horses

While I was in Belchertown I stopped at my youngest daughter Betty’s house.    She is a horse lover and has a few horses and a very large dog.

Beamer is on the right.  He is a Morgan.   I was horse crazy as a child, that was the only thing I wanted every Christmas,a horse.  I got my wish in my mid 40’s when Betty and I got Amanda.  Betty was working then at Mt. Holyoke college and heard that a Morgan school horse was being retired.  Unfortunately Amanda overheard that she was going to be retired and took it quite seriously.  She really didn’t want to be ridden again.  We loved her anyway and she lived out her life on the farm.  She loved peppermint candies and would get all excited if she heard the rusle of the plastic wrapping.

Thank you for reading my blog and hope you have a wonderful day.    Carole

TIS THE SEASON-SAM-A GIFT FROM LOUISE

24 12 2012

HELLO

MURPHY AND MORTICIA

MURPHY AND MORTICIA

I love the Holidays but this year I didn’t get into the spirit of it until a few days ago.  Issues with my Mother and other things just got in the way.  I am finishing up gifts today.  Most gifts are home-made.

BROOKSIDE ANIMAL HOSPITAL

P1010815

Sam has been having some respiratory issues for a few days.  He is  16 and his immune system is breaking down so he is on constant antibiotics and has done well for almost a year.  I decided to bring him into today and he was put on another antibiotic and may have to have some dental work done in the future.  Dr. Funk and his staff are so caring and kind to every animal that comes in there.  After a through exam Sammy had his nails done and was given a good combing and a couple of treats.

Willow is one of the resident cats there.  Her bed is by the window where there is a bird feeder.  Willow was brought in at 6 weeks unable to walk. Her every need is attended to every day.  She is able to see everyone who comes in, watch the birds and has a warm bed.  She is now 6 years old and is greeted by almost everyone who come in the door.

A SURPRISE FROM LOUISE

I met my friend Louise some years ago at a hooking event in Vermont.  We see each other about once a year and correspond by e-mail.  She is one of the best rug hookers I know.  She just completed a hooked portrait of a relative.  It is amazing.  She lives in Montreal and is very active in  rug hooking there.  A package arrived a few days ago and  I was rushing around that day and put it on the table.  Today I decided to open it.  Too my surprise was a  hooked sheep and she used Elliott’s roving in it.  It really is so beautiful and reminds me of Sadie.

BETTY AND TEA – LIL’S PICTURE WITH SANTA – OLD CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS

23 12 2012

HELLO

Yesterday it  was windy and spitting snow all day long.  It didn’t amount too much though, but the wind spooked Elliott last night.  He did settle down though.

Yesterday I had a surprise visit from my youngest daughter Betty and her daughter Tea.  It was great to see them, Tea plays basketball for the high school team in Belchertown, Mass.   She is one of their best players.   We went over to visit Lil and her family and it was Tea’s first time holding her.  Hopefully I will have a picture tomorrow.

Lil did have a visit with Santa and here is the picture.

OLD CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS

The Christmas decorations in this glass jar are from my childhood.  These were on many Christmas trees.  They are so delicate that I choose to keep them in this jar.  I have more in boxes in the attic which I will add to the jar.

Christmas Cards

P1010810

I always make my own Christmas cards.  This year I haven’t finished them and they may go out as New Years Cards or not at all. No one wanted to wear the Santa’s hat, and tomorrow I will make one more try, I am hoping that Marley will be willing to do it.

Thank you for reading my blog and hope you have a wonderful day.     Carole
